WELCOME TO
A BIT 'BOUT OL' BOB
|
Here's a bit about Bob Craig, AKA Texas Bob, a native
Texan born in March of nineteen-hundred-thirty-three, at Waco, Texas. |
Bob was born into a family with four existing
siblings, two girls and two boys. Then in about three years another
brother came along. this made a Texas size family. four boys, and each one
had two sisters. He doesn't know that it particularly
matters, but a promise was made to write something, and it helps take up
space.
The Papa of this portion of the Craig clan was
William Clark (Bill) Craig, who happened to be a carpenter, and followed
construction, literally. Before Bob went into the sixth grade in school he
had attended eleven different schools from south east Texas to western
most west Texas, and even into New Mexico.
Migrating into Roswell, New Mexico, Ol' Bob finished
his schooling there except for a few courses back in Waxahachie, Texas, at
the Southwestern Bible Institute. This was a seminary combined with Jr.
College.
Bill Craig being a working man himself had the
attitude and belief that boys are going to have to work all their lives,
so get in and learn how. Therefore the boys were given the opportunity and
had jobs at age six or seven years of age.
They were only allowed to sweep the floor, or
stoke the old wood stove, but it taught them responsibility. It was not a
slave labor type thing, the boys were paid and paid well for the two hours
after school and four hours on Saturday. Of course the boys thought that
was terrible, however they always had money in their pockets when other
school kids didn't.
Later years proved, the early start wasn't such a bad
thing after all. Due in part, to the early start, Ol' Bob officially
retired at age forty-two from President, CEO and major stockholder of what
had grown to be the largest Construction Company in Nevada. It had ranked
number three-hundred-ninety-eight in the nation within the first eighteen
months of it's inception. This was posted in the Engineering News Record,
(a construction magazine), that lists the top four-hundred contractors in
the United states. No one knows for sure how many General
Contracting companies there were, but no doubt it was into the millions.
The only reason Bob allowed me to enter the above,
was to bring out a very valid point. Up until the inception of that
company, Bob had always treated people like most other companies treated
people. They were worth the cost of a phone call to the union hall to
request another being sent out. He used his people and dearly loved
material things.
However Ol' Bob had turned over a new leaf. He had
learned to use his things, and love his people. A direct one-hundred and
eighty degree change. Jesus brought a change into Ol' Bob, and it began to
show in certain areas unnoticed before.
Even though Ol' Bob officially retired in
seventy-five, he didn't quit doing until July of two-thousand-two. Since
that time he will not do anything for anyone who can pay to have work
done. He will only do for older seniors who happen to be in need of small
repairs or something of the kind, and will not accept any form of payment.
This now brings us to something that might be of
interest to you. Due to not being busy all the time, Ol' Bob started this
web site on January twentieth two-thousand-three.
It is strictly a hobby, which he thoroughly enjoys,
and spends many hours providing things to share with his many friends and
the world. The three months since starting this site it has quadrupled the
mailing list, which now consists of a little over two-hundred* including
Visitors in Canada, England, Australia, Philippines, Hawaii, as well as
many of our own states.
A list of only two-hundred may sound exceptionally
small but when it started with less than fifty, we think it has done well
and Ol' Bob is absolutely ecstatic that so many people would enjoy the
works and ask to be added to receive new pages and information. One thing
you might like to know, there will be no pop ups, no banners, donations
aren't requested . It is meant only to be a fun site and
hopefully an inspiration to some folks.
Ol' Bob
has written a poem that explains his present philosophy regarding doing
for others. It is listed on the Inspirational poem index entitled
"HAVE I DONE MY
BEST"
.
He would be delighted if you would go there and read
it.
THIS WAS WRITTEN BY A FRIEND, OF SOME
TIME, DUE
TO OL' BOB'S NEVER HAVING LEARNED TO TYPE, AND NOW REFUSES TO LEARN.
